Let's face it, crutches are not inherently fun. They are a critical tool to help with injuries, recovery and long-term assistance...invaluable, actually. That said, crutches can indeed be made fun with a little creativity and a positive attitude. Here are some ideas:
Customization: Decorate your crutches with stickers, paint, or colorful tape. This can make them look cool and reflect your personality. smartCRUTCH has embraced this with sassy skins!!
Crutch Tricks: With practice and safety precautions, you can learn some fun crutch tricks, similar to skateboarding or using a pogo stick. Look up tutorials or videos online for inspiration.
Crutch Games: Invent games that incorporate your crutches. For example, you can use them for a game of "crutch soccer" where you use one crutch to hit a soft ball.
Crutch Challenges: Challenge yourself or friends to fun and safe competitions, like timed races on crutches or obstacle courses.
Social Fun: Get friends involved. Have them try using crutches for a short period to understand your experience and create fun shared activities.
Music and Rhythm: Use your crutches to make beats or rhythms, turning them into musical instruments.
Positivity and Humor: Maintain a positive mindset and use humor to make the experience enjoyable. Sharing funny moments or jokes about crutches can lighten the mood.
Remember to always prioritize safety and not to overexert yourself, especially if you are using crutches due to an injury. The Freedom to Move!
I took a Nordic Walking class and decided I wanted my own sticks. The first pair I purchased (NOT from York Nordic) adjusted by twisting tension. My grip is not strong, and I had trouble tightening and loosening them. My instructor has York Nordic walking sticks for his students to use, so I knew they must be durable. I like that they have a flip lock-down rather than twist height adjustment. The glove with quick release button fits me well, and I appreciated the information that came with the sticks - it was very helpful. Overall, I am very pleased with the sticks and hope I learn to use them well enough to enjoy long-term.
So much better than standard crutches. Much easier on my hands and wrists
Product works well and provides for a way to self stand the crutches while doing something else
I’ve got multiple chronic conditions where my mobility becomes limited during a flare, for a long time basic forearm crutches worked but that changed quickly when my hands started to become inflamed and ache. I could not get myself to the bathroom because of the bearing down weight of my body on just my hands and wrists alone. SmartCrutches completely changed that for me! They were bought for me as a gift from a friend knowing that I was really struggling. I currently have them set up at the 15 degree angle and all of my weight is being distributed evenly across my forearm. No more severe hand pain or tingling, no shooting elbow pain from overuse. I’m able to get myself around for basic tasks without being in extra pain than necessary. It took a day or two to get used to the change of balance just because the center of gravity is a little different, but it was a quick lesson and they are working great for me. Not to mention the fun designs, I’ve had so many people compliment how fun my crutches are. Super grateful to this company, they thought of literally everything when designing these mobility aids. They are pretty lightweight even though they are obviously bulkier than your standard crutches. But the ability to customize the way they fit and their positioning is truly game changing. If you’re thinking about getting them, I highly recommend just doing it. Your hands will thank you, unless you’re on standard crutches… then your armpits will thank you!
Great quality. Injured left leg and right wrist. Used to keep body weight off of injured wrist, works well. Unlike traditional crutch/cane this is comfortable for me to use.
