Jennifer Peacock-Smith has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). She has a rich story to tell of misdiagnosis, advocacy, strength and perseverance …and is now writing a series of books about it all which span four decades, nearly a dozen cities across over six different countries, but ultimately about not only surviving but thriving. Her blogs and books tell this story as well as the on going struggles to raise awareness and to help her children who have all inherited the condition, giving them a much better life than she has had (so far). She writes about all of this as well as all that she is learning about Chronic illness in general, and all that goes with the losses, grief, abuse and other life challenges that accompany these kinds of journeys.
Jennifer has been using smartCRUTCH for nearly 2 years and believes that are a game-changing product for the chronic illness community, so she is going to help us spread the news of smartCRUTCH to the world.
Here's what she says:
"I ditched conventional crutches for good reason, and use a SmartCrutch wherever I go, and it has been life changing for me! I am not paid by the inventors or producers or any of the companies who sell these crutches, to use, talk about, or advertise them in any way, shape or form. I talk about them a lot because I believe in them, and they are in most of my photos because they go everywhere with me. They have become somewhat of an extra limb for me. They protect me, and they give me the ability to walk a little most days.
I am also a little biased, and proud, that they are locally invented and produced, right here in South Africa!
I decorate them, I travel with them, I walk with elephants with them, and they have become a part of me!
So it is my honor and great pleasure to announce that I am now partnering with them to help get word out there, to show them off, to recommend them, and to help anyone with questions on how to get them, how to use them, how to decorate them and how to make the most of them."

These crutches are definitely easier on the hands and armpits. The graphics are okay, but the company name/logo covers half of the whole graphic on each side of each crutch. That's a bit much, IMHO. Since the graphics are vinyl prefab stickers, that issue was remedied with a wide black perm. marker. I've had these for 2 weeks, and other than a slight metal on metal sound when the spring is compressed, they've worked well. I would recommend them.
This is my first set of forearm crutches and I do love the entire special fit parts of them. There were a couple small hiccups that just edge out giving the 5/5, but I do not regret buying these.
1st thing I had a small issue with- the adjustment **** for the length of the forearm are really hard to adjust and I ended up hurting my thumb the first time trying to adjust them. The **** for the angle adjustment are SO easy to use that I was surprised that these would be so much more difficult.
The 2nd issue I encountered was trying to get the cushion + adhesive to get properly into place on the arm cuffs. Two have already fallen off due to the difficulties I had getting them in the proper alignment and the adhesive just not wanting to stick. I’m sure this was user error, but it still lead to overall difficulty getting started.
All of this to say, I don’t regret for one moment purchasing these and I have already used them in a variety of situations, and I am so happy to have these as an additional option for my own mobility.
Bought a set of smart crutches because I had my left foot operated on and I'm still dealing with a right rotator cuff injury and the regular standard style crutchesjust would not work. These help take a lot of the weight off of my rotator cuff and place it more on my lower forearm and hands. Great product.
Very cute colors and work well, simple out of box setup in 2 seconds.
Sturdy and beautiful. I bought it because the one I got is not foldable but this one doesn't fold enough to fit in my large suitcase. So minus one star.
